Baker’s Chocolate…A Snack for the Average Consumer?

Once upon a time…there was this kid.  Who went on a youth trip with his youth group in a van driven by his youth pastor.  And.  The youth pastor stopped the van at a gas station, in order to buy gas for the van.  So.  The kid.  It was just one kid.  With his youth group.  The kid decided to go inside…and buy himself a snack.  So he walked down the whole 3 aisles in that gas station…because he wanted to find the best snack he could possibly find.  So the kid, I don’t really know what was going on in his mind, but he…well…he picked up a boxed snack…and bought it.  Because he definitely did not believe in stealing.

After purchasing the item at the front counter…he proceeded to walk out the front door and back into the front row of the van that was parked out in front of the gas station.  Upon his arrival, he…ever so proudly…revealed his prized snack to the rest of the group.  He turned the box around to display a label that read… “Baker’s Chocolate.”  Baker’s Chocolate!  As in: Unsweetened Chocolate!  As in: NO SUGAR IN THIS SNACK!  We didn’t know what possessed him to buy such a…snack?  Hardly!  But he had this grin on his face that he just couldn’t hide…as if…as if he knew something that we didn’t.  It was like…he had discovered something really great, and was just so pleased with his purchase.  And he really was.  Pleased with his purchase of the snack, that is.  And we just sat in amazement, while some of us laughed at his unawareness of what he really possessed.  “Baker’s Chocolate?!?” someone exclaimed in laughter.  “You’re not supposed to eat that stuff!  You BAKE with it!”  But the kid.  He opened the box and unwrapped a piece and put it in his mouth.  I’m not sure if he ate the whole piece.  But he tried it…and was not satisfied with the taste.  In fact, he did not like it…at all.  He may have spit it out.  I do not remember.

But the kid.  He just didn’t know.  He didn’t understand.  He didn’t really know what Baker’s Chocolate was.  He probably had ever heard of it before and thought he was getting something really great.  (Why would that even be sold at a gas station, is my question.)  So.  He may have felt rather…foolish…for having bought the “snack.”  He may also have regretted the money he spent on the snack, considering the fact that he wouldn’t be eating the rest of it.  Actually, while he may indeed have felt these two feelings, the kid appeared to think it was funny.  And he let other people in the van try it too.  Needless to say, the snack was NOT a hit, and the kid realized that Baker’s Chocolate is not an everyday snack for the average consumer.  So I’m guessing he took the box home to his mother and asked her to bake him something.  Because Baker’s Chocolate is only for bakers.  And he definitely wasn’t one.
