Intersections

When the day becomes the night and the sky becomes the sea, when the clock strikes heavy and there’s no time for tea; and in our darkest hour, before my final rhyme, she will come back home to Wonderland and turn back the hands of time. ~ The Cheshire Cat

(BANG!) It was like a rollercoaster ride through a color run that came to an abrupt stop. No lights. No warning signs. Just a loud confusing sound of static and other engines passing by. Three minutes prior to this scene, I had been walking outside before setting sail down the Green River. I looked up high and noticed the Cheshire Cat with a silly smile on his half-hidden face in the night sky. Was that a glimmer in his eye or a wink? What was he trying to tell me? Go this way or go that way? Oh what to do, what to do…

The Wild Goose Chase of Birdnapper Brown

The name’s Pearl. Blizzard Pearl. She’s called the Snow Goose by those who know and love her. And she likes to fly fast. This blog is about the day the Snow Goose took a high speed flight, and the secret mission to bring her home.

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful bird in a far off land known as Stoplight City, where the corn fields shake hands with suburban living. This bird shone with a radiant iridescent glow and so was called Blizzard Pearl. This Snow Goose never asked for much; she was happy to leisurely fly her lady, known as M, wherever M’s heart desired. But Pearl did have one secret longing: she yearned to fly fast. And on one now infamous day, fate would give her that chance…

Apricity

The shadow proves the sunshine…” ~ Switchfoot

Apricity. I’ve been seeing this word all over social media the last couple of days. The warmth of the sun in winter. I think it’s safe to say we are all collectively in need of some sunlight. Is it just me or has it been an especially difficult January this year? I’m currently clicking these keys while my therapy light is shining over my shoulder. It does a pretty satisfactory job of moderately elevating my disposition this time of year. (Can I also say how intrigued I have always been by the idea of shadows versus light? Cue the infinite life lessons…and the perplexing logic of a certain revered groundhog.) I definitely believe Blue Monday is a real thing, and it’s just been graaaaaay ever since.

I was talking to a fellow writer friend at work the other day who entertained me with his witty ways and funny stories, and the connection was truly a breath of fresh air on what was indeed a rather manic Monday. (Are they all manic?) In the midst of the humor, he encouraged me to experiment with different tones of written expression, and get back to my former ways of lighthearted diction. And then! I saw “apricity” pop up on Facebook later that day. I was QUITE fascinated by the word.

Wild Dreaming

Some say it’s the darkest before the dawn…the stormiest before the calm…

Domicile disarray abounds around, but I’m feeling introspective and only slightly sentimental on this rainy afternoon. The organizational demands are just going to have to be patient a little while longer, for alas, the writing mode strikes whenever it fancies. Follow me away into…

…a maze of greenery. And a tangled up enchanted opal apple orchard. It’s a wonder one could ever find one’s way out. A last dance in the moonlight with that dashingly handsome man. There’s something about the way he looked that evening. Wild daydream blue eyes. His voice and smile were so familiar, like I’d known him half my life. Enraptured distant memories came to the forefront of my mind, as the large clock on the castle wall sounded an alarmingly loud alarm. Midnight! And it was just getting good. My heart beat swiftly as he kissed my red lips, brushed my hair back from my rosy cheek, and whispered in my ear, “I’ll see you again.” I made it to the door a fraction before the twelfth stroke. Labyrinth

Dreams feel real while we’re in them. It’s only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange. ~ Inception

It was just another manic Monday of melancholy madness. Except that it wasn’t. It was actually two days in the future. The present can feel like the past when winter merriment gets involved. Ah, the Genesis of a new rotation around the good ol’ Sol. If you and I found ourselves in a conversation post the omega of the most recent full moon, odds are you might find a piece of it woven within this labyrinth of literary lunacy. An idea has been twisting and turning lately. Something I want to create…a belletristic maze within a maze, just so I can revel…nay…get lost in the depth of it. A multi-sensory aesthetic experience.

Malice in Wonderland

“There is a place.  Like no place on Earth.  A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger!  Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter.  Which luckily I am.” ~ The Mad Hatter

I dreamt up the title of this blog over a decade ago, but never did anything with it.  Considering the madness currently brewing in our world, I think it’s high time I stop brewing the idea, and spill the tea.  Oh my!  Have I made a rhyme?  I just woke up from a dream about a rabbit.  Random?  No, it’s Easter.  I think.  What day is it?  Day 26.  A quick glance at my ever present technological pocket watch reveals that it is the unearthly hour of 3 a.m.  Oh dear!  I just hit my head on the ceiling.  It seems…a bit lower today?  How curious!  Opening my eyes, I remember…I’m a miniature version of myself…trapped in a teapot.  I’ve been doing a lot of wondering lately.  Not that that’s really anything new.  But I feel like I’m in one of those purple mental spiral tunnels (try saying that as fast as you can, more than twelve times) from an old animated movie.  But this isn’t a movie, and it isn’t a bad dream either.  This is reality. Who Is Colony House?

My family drew names for Christmas this year, and my sister gave me an album on vinyl by a band called Colony House.  After I opened it, she asked, “Do you still like that band?”  I was a little confused.  And I wasn’t trying to hide it, I was just thinking slowly.  Who is this band?  Is this The Rocketboys?  I don’t like The Rocketboys!  Maybe she was thinking of another band I like called Humming House?  “I don’t know who this is,” I finally said.  “It’s Steven Curtis Chapman’s sons!”  Light bulb moment.  For the record, I knew they had a band, I was just unaware of the name change from “Caleb” to “Colony House.”  Where have I been?  Caleb and Will Franklin are even on the cover, but as people tend to do, they grew up, and I didn’t recognize them.  All these differences left me blind, blind, blind. Lackadaisical

I spent a little time editing my blog site tonight and as I was reading, I came across a few things that inspired me to write.  Even though I’ve blogged a lot this month, I’ve gotten a little lackadaisical on the idea of “Randomness.”  Crazy, right?!  I mean…that IS the title of my blog AND what this whole thing is supposed to be about!  So, tonight I must write what’s on my mind and BE RANDOM!  So here you go.  Backing it up a bit, I always thought the word was “lacksadaisical.”  I’m not usually lackadaisical with grammar, but it’s hard not to make mistakes when you hear a random word like that which so often gets mispronounced.  I so appreciate having Google at my fingertips, virtually whenever I need it’s mad research skills. Apophenia, Fruffles, & the Fritz

“Nothing is so alien to the human mind as the idea of randomness.” — John Cohen

I read that quote recently and instantly felt a connection to the idea.  So…I thought I should write a blog about it.  I mean…it’s only appropriate, right?  The editor of Randomness finding a quote about randomness…some might deem it divine inspiration.  I just thought it was too perfect of a quote not to incorporate into my blog, however random the connection might end up being.  Let the reader note that writing about randomness is not an obligation, but rather a state of mind that I fully embrace.  I enjoy connecting with people through my writing.  We as humans love connections.  We want to connect with others through conversations, shared experiences, and common interests.  It’s what gives validation to our own humanity…finding out we’re not alone in our thinking and feelings. Star Fruits and Yumberries

I wrote a blog ten Octobers ago called “The Exhaustiveness of Certain Types of Fruit Trees,” and it will serve as a loose inspiration for this new blog.  The question was, do you ever get tired of hearing people compare apples to oranges?  How many times have you heard them used in illustrations of comparison or in exhausting mathematical dilemmas?  I think people need to be more creative and reference other fruits, not just apples and oranges.  For instance, star fruits and yumberries!  The names alone sound plum delicious!
