My love for words began when I was introduced to the world of creative writing in junior high, and I was also particularly fond of my English classes in high school and college. Grammar, punctuation, memorizing the list of prepositions, a poetry contest, diagramming sentences, symbolism in literature, endless writing assignments…I loved it all.
While in college, I needed a creative outlet as the stress of school was piling up. One day a spark of an idea came to me. What if I start writing about topics in life that aren’t so serious, and creatively bring light to the amusement that is all around us? Thus, the Wonderful World of Randomness (aka an amusement park for my mind) was born and became a way to be better connected with my family. They were forced to endure my musings about all sorts of random topics via email (don’t worry, they loved it.) Matt Thiessen (the lead singer from my favorite band at the time, Relient K) was my source of inspiration, as I appreciated his tongue-in-cheek-nonsense writing style. After about a year or so of consistent writing, I took an extended sabbatical because…life.
In 2017, I decided to pick up my proverbial pen and start an actual blog, again called Randomness. But as all kids do, Randomness grew up and became Blue Moon Muse in 2023. Over the last several years, I have shown a more serious tone in my writing, as opposed to my years spent in the amusement park. I have also noticed another source of inspiration as of late; Alice in Wonderland often tumbles into my blog in some way or another. Why, you may ask? Well, that’s another story for another time.
Regardless of the name or inspiration, I think I shall forevermore be passionate about the art of storytelling. I can’t enjoy life without chasing words, and you can always find me wandering in…Wonderland.
