I wrote a blog ten Octobers ago called “The Exhaustiveness of Certain Types of Fruit Trees,” and it will serve as a loose inspiration for this new blog. The question was, do you ever get tired of hearing people compare apples to oranges? How many times have you heard them used in illustrations of comparison or in exhausting mathematical dilemmas? I think people need to be more creative and reference other fruits, not just apples and oranges. For instance, star fruits and yumberries! The names alone sound plum delicious!I first learned about the star fruit while on a trip with my high school youth group. I tried one but didn’t really enjoy the taste or texture. What I did enjoy was eating a tropical fruit that was in the shape of a star. How fun! We’re all about fun here at Randomness. The scientific name for star fruit is Carambola. It can be lime or yellow, and the whole fruit is edible; however, it should be advised to those with kidney problems, not to indulge in the star fruit. It can cause nausea, vomiting, confusion of the mind…and even DEATH! We don’t like death here at Randomness and we really don’t like mental confusion…it tends to hinder our creative juices flowing throughout Wonderland.
The next fruit on the table for discussion is the yumberry. I learned about this tasty sounding fruit a few months ago when I bought a chapstick by the brand Mongo Kiss. The packaging said the flavor was yumberry, and it sounded too good to be true. I assumed it was a made-up name for marketing purposes, but no, it’s a real fruit, kids! It goes by many names, but its scientific name is Myrica rubra. This fruit is red, purple, or even white and can be found growing in China. Yumberries are sweet and tart (like SweeTarts?) and the whole fruit is edible. Just be careful if you bite into it because the seed is about half the size of the fruit.
You might think this blog is just peachy, but I think it’s bursting with passion and juicy fruit flavor! And it’s not your typical apples and oranges. Now you know about two random fruits, AND you’ve been encouraged to stay away from ordinary fruits in your conversations, because if we give too much attention to certain types of fruits, they will most certainly be spoiled rotten. So let’s try to keep it random, shall we? Also, this is the pearfect opportunity to tell you about the Fruit Fluff Forest in Wonderland. Star fruits and yumberries galore! Plus other random fruits…like sugar apples and marble berries! AH! I wish I could tell you all about it, but you’ll just have to come see (and taste) it all for yourself. (But don’t eat the marble berries.) There’s lots of exploring to do in Wonderland…we think you’ll go bananas when you get here! Cherry-o!
(All this talk of fruit makes me thirsty. I think I’ll go pour myself a glass of Canton Joy orange juice. I should have been asleep hours ago. I broke several of the Randomness Rules tonight because I was so excited to write about those unique fruits. Question: Does anyone else think it’s fun to say “star fruits and yumberries” or is this just another way I am alone in the universe?)
