“Well everyone’s got something on their mind, and this is my thought at this present time. I’m gonna say what I want, it might not be what you want to hear.”
This is a very random blog, but I make no apologies because this is, after all, Randomness. So I will dive right in. Back in the early days when Randomness was first in existence, I had no trouble with the location of one of my favorite breakfast foods in the cereal aisle at the store. Quaker Oatmeal to Go…has anyone seen or heard of it lately? I think it may have experienced a discontinuation, so putting “to go” in the product’s name was most appropriate indeed. Of course, there are comparable items to be purchased as far as breakfast bars are concerned, but they’re just not the same! When I find an item of high satisfaction, it really bothers me when it is no longer available for consumption. I still keep my eyes open for this beloved breakfast food when I’m grocery shopping, hoping that one day it will be on the shelf just waiting for me! I feel like as a consumer, I should practice the continuation of purchasing my favorite snacks, in order to let the companies know they should keep up production. Otherwise, one day they may no longer be available, due in part to my lack of dedication.
I was all about these breakfast bars back in college. I even wrote a blog about them! Now I work at an athletic facility and am on the go a lot. So naturally, a variety of protein bars find their way into my cart during most grocery shopping trips. I very much wish Oatmeal to Go was still in circulation to boost my morning transportation with a little motivation before I arrive at my employment destination. However, with a heavy heart, my stomach has had to settle on other energy bars that don’t get me half as psyched as the aforementioned one. And so, with that introduction, the ghost of snacks past will pester this blog with a post from the past…
*One day, my mother came home from a shopping trip at our local store of inconvenience. And…she had bought a new breakfast food. I had never seen nor heard of this food before, but I’m sure I definitely made a scene like a herd of cattle while eating it. This new breakfast item was called, “Oatmeal to Go.” The only thing was…it wasn’t. Oatmeal to eat on the go, that is. It was extremely chewy and took about 20 minutes to eat. It was a square bar of oats and such with dried milk icing on top. Delicious, yes. “To go,” no. It definitely was an “oat meal” in and of itself. If you don’t like oatmeal, then you would probably like Oatmeal to Go. And no, I did not just make a typo. I am not a huge fan of oatmeal, but…I strongly recommend Oatmeal to Go because it is simply delicious. It’s the perfect way to enjoy breakfast when you’re too rushed to cook, but not too rushed to chew. If you find yourself perfectly balancing in the previous sentence, then this could be the perfect breakfast for you.
One thing I’m sure of: 1) you can count on sitting at the breakfast table for a while, while chewing like a cow, so you had better take into consideration the fact that your morning will revolve around your breakfast consumption schedule and that you thus need to plan out your day accordingly. Two things I’m not sure of: 1) what the price of these Oatmeal to Go bars is, and 2) if we will ever buy them again. Three things that these bars contain: 1) oats, 2) brown sugar, and 3) cinnamon. Kind of sounds like a dessert! Are you convinced yet? I personally would like for there to be a large box of them sitting on our shelf right now and waiting for the rooster to crow and the sun to rise – the official announcements that breakfast can begin…unless, of course, you’re one of those people who likes to beat the roosters to the crowing…
That piece of writing was constructed ten years ago. Back then I was not much of a morning person, but now, at least a couple of days a week, my day begins well before the roosters have crowed. Not that we have any in my neighborhood. (Except for that one time, when there WAS a rooster in my neck of the woods…and his neck definitely needed to get the heck out of the ‘hood! The bustling city is no place for a chicken…well, except in the instance of chicken-crossing-the-road jokes.) Sorry for the detour. Anyway, while I could wish for Oatmeal to Go to make a comeback, within the past year or so I have experienced an introduction to my new favorite breakfast on the go item…Wella Bars! If you haven’t tried them…TRY THEM! You will go nuts!
Yes, the pun was intended…rather than oats, these bars are nut-based, and come in a plethora of flavors. I personally think the Peanut Cacao bar is…well…rather wonderful! Whether you’re hanging on the edge of a high cliff or walking through a low valley, Wella Bars are the perfect instrumentation to help get you in the zone to overcome whatever obstacles your day might bring. They are easily transported, do not take long to consume, and are a meal in and of themselves which will give you energy and sustenance all morning! At least, this has been the result of my own experimentation. I’m not making any guarantee…just give it some consideration and see.
~So here it is, it’s just me, a different breakfast but the same need to eat. It’s seems like everything is gonna be just fine, ’cause I’m re-doing an old rhyme.~ Much appreciation to you for reading this blog on this all important matter and for witnessing the special premiere of my new breakfast bar fascination. Well, I guess I should add them to my grocery list again…and hope that all goes well for Wella Bars. At least I’ve done my part now.
Oh, btw, the photo is me like ten years ago, in case you were wondering…
