It’s Fun to Have Fun!

A brisk winter walk down a snowy lane is simply breath-taking!  It’s so fun to watch the snowflakes as they make their landing to adorn the ground and trees and to kiss the faces of those out and about in the wonderful world of white. I’ve been pining for the sight of those snow-covered trees ever since the last snowflake melted last April.  As I am writing this, the snow is falling to an already white ground, creating a wintry atmosphere of which I do not want to let go; however, by the time you are reading this, the snow may be melted and long gone, leaving no trace that it once graced this earth on which we dwell.  Such is the plight for those of us residing in southern Indiana.  For all you other lovers of winter, let us remain hopeful and keep the spirit of winter alive.  While you might rather be sledding down hills, making snow angels, and building snowmen, there’s lots of good winter fun that is funny, even if no snow is present and the weather is sunny. “Fun with no snow? How so?” you say now.  Well, since you have asked, I will tell you how…

It’s sunny with a high of 75,

Since they took your heavy coat and made it light;

But here is a list of some fun you will like,

The first thing to do in the house is fly a kite.

Just like the “fun in a box” Thing 1 and Thing 2,

Who wore red pajamas and had hair so blue;

They made up new games and were very creative,

And you too may find that you’re quite innovative.

The next thing to do for some good winter fun,

While you’re waiting for the snow to eventually come;

Listen to Christmas music for you must see,

It’s not only reserved for trimming your tree.

Go ahead now and spread Christmas cheer,

Sing loud and proud for all to hear;

Make paper snowflakes, send a Christmas gram,

And turn your room into a winter wonderland.

Wear a coat with the hood up while you’re indoors,

And make after-Christmas cookies for all your neighbors;

Put on a scarf, write a tune and go after-Christmas caroling,

And turn your backyard into a rink for ice skating.

Take a walk through a sugar plum forest so grand,

Until you reach an imaginary candy cane land;

Envision a wonderful white world of snow,

And eat sugar plums and candy canes as on you go.

Knit some new mittens if you possess the skills,

And drink some hot chocolate to keep away the chills;

Invest in a snow globe and shake it a lot,

And you’ll find the snow for which you have sought.

So while it’s good fun to play out in the snow,

Crazy and random is the best way to go;

Play a game, sing a song, just remember now,

“It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how!”
